Cowboy Poetry Contest

Saddle up, readers! We'd like you to rustle up your best original cowboy poem. 

All Poems submitted will be collected into a book published and displayed at the Celina Public Library. Each poet will receive a finalist ribbon. 

A panel of judges will select the top six poems in each category. These poets will be invited to present their poem on stage at the Celina Heritage Festival on September 24!  

GUIDELINES

  • Poems should focus on ranching history, cowboys or cowgirls, ranch life, and livestock or animals. 
  • Poems must be handwritten or typed (double-spaced) and must be the original work of the poet. 
  • Poems written in other languages than English must have the translation attached. 
  • No illustrations or decorations should adorn the paper.
  • Only ONE poem per poet, please. 

CATEGORIES

  • Grades 1-4
    • A minimum of four lines and a maximum of two pages
  • Grades 5-8
    • A minimum of eight lines and a maximum of two pages
  • Grades 9-12
    • A minimum of eight lines and a maximum of two pages
  • Post high school (18+)
    • A minimum of eight lines and a maximum of two pages

Please submit your poems between August 1 and August 26 online or in person at the Celina Public Library.
