May 5th

The Celina Main Street Program invites you to be a sponsor for our 15th Annual Golf Tournament to be held Monday, May 5th, 2008 at The Trails of Frisco Golf Course in Frisco, Texas. The tournament proceeds will also benefit Main Street projects and events, including Founders Park Monument, Movies on the Square, Trick-or-Treat on the Square and Christmas in Celina – Ice Skating on the Square. For more information click on Golf Tournament Brochure.

Another Step for Safety with a Certificate of Occupancy Program

Celina has instituted a new program to help assure the safety of its citizens by requiring buildings to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy before they are used. A C.O. will be required for all buildings that will be occupied or used by occupants. A new C.O. will be required when a tenant leases a new space, a commercial building is built, or a new home is built. Upon issuance of a C.O. and approval of all required inspections, utilities will be released in the new tenant's name. The C.O. contains information concerning the owner or tenant, address of the building, a description of the portions of the building and the use intended, building code verifications for the group and classification of the building or structure, and approval of the Building Official. Among other things, it allows the fire department to plan for emergencies at the location. Follow this link for a full description of the Certificate of Occupancy.

Collin County Burn Ban is Lifted

As of March 25, 2008 Collin County Judge Keith Self has lifted the burn ban for Collin County. The ban had been in effect since late January due to fire and weather conditions appropriate for potentially damaging results from fires. According to the Texas Forest Service, the recent rainfall
places Collin County in the very low portion of the drought index, and therefore, the burn ban has been lifted until further notice.

Anyone in the Celina fire district outside the city limits who wishes to burn brush on their property must obtain a permit from the Collin County Fire Marshal's Office. If anyone wants to burn brush inside the Celina city limits, a permit must be obtained from the Celina Fire Marshal at 302 W. Walnut St., #200 in Celina. The phone number is 972-382-2653. Celina generally follows the same rules for burning as established for the County. They include: burn only vegetation natural to the property, during daylight hours, and only during times when weather conditions are favorable. The next several days, it appears the winds will be too high to allow burning. You can check to see if it is a burn day by calling the County's outdoor burn information line at 972-548-4799, which is normally updated daily around 7:30 AM each morning.

About Celina

Celina is a wonderful city that is now experiencing the change from a predominately farming community to an urban city. In doing so, it is maintaining the friendliness and charm that has made it such a wonderful place to live and work. Celina is also known for sports, where for example, the Celina High School Bobcats hold the Texas state record for the most consecutive wins and most state championships.
